I was recently at Games Workshop’s Warhammer 40,000 Boarding Actions Into the Breach matched play event at Warhammer World. Overall I have to say it was a great experience.

From the app perspective, it was a brillant way to stretch its legs. I created a list for each player in the tournament, which was super quick and easy. It did of course uncover a few bugs, for example, I couldn’t include the Warboss in Mega Armour in David Wood list and I couldn’t even include Tom Cox’s Deathwatch list. I’ve seen corrected the data and the app automatically updated when it was next opened.

In terms of the event, its as you would have expected, it was well run and setup, how they have integrate Eventbrite with Best Coast Pairings (BCP) seemed to work well. It was both my first 40k event and using BCP app. The BCP app mostly worked pretty well, I can see why its become the defacto tool for event organisers. Unfortantely there were some features that seemed buggy, such as voting on favourite player. Dispite them recommending using the web site it seemed unreliable. It also gave insight into Games Workshop’s inter-workings as they used a simple Google form for the painting voting. Indicating they use Google Apps internally.

In total we had 20 players with a few dropping out at the last minute. I wasn’t sure if that was because it was mid-week or the email the day before saying the Bugman’s Bar is unable to serve food.

Most of the players had uploaded their lists prior to the game, I did managed to capture one additional list but I still missed two. There was a nice array of factions, admittly lot were off shoots of the power armour crew.

The tables had be pre setup with a clear numbering and two copies of the tables mission rules printed out.

Into the breach terrain

The terrain was as you would have expected, painted. They used Really Useful boxes to store the terrain, which alot of us (myself included) had used to store our models in. They really have embedded themselves into the Warhammer Community. Still Aaran Folly’s empty ammo box was by far the coolest.

I really liked Thomas Wallar’s space dwarves (Sorry, Votann) painted as minons. I loved as well how we put the helmets on, I NEVER get why you wouldn’t go into a battle without your helmet! It was disappearing to hear GW doesn’t supply a helmet for the character, or enough spares on other kits. Into the breach terrain
